Multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, fixed-dose trial of 692 patients ages 15 to 65 years28-week, double-blind treatment phase. Median seizure frequency per 28 days at baseline was 9.8 in the 1200 mg/day group.2
Proven efficacy when added to regimens with CBZ or without CBZ |
Patients were at therapeutic levels of CBZ prior to the addition of TRILEPTAL*1 |
Study Limitations
36% of patients in the 1200 mg/day group discontinued therapy due to adverse events2
No dosage adjustments were permitted for TRILEPTAL or the concomitant AEDs |
A rapid forced titration schedule, as required by the study protocol, titrated the 1200 mg/day group in 6 days |

Reductions in Frequency of Partial Seizures When TRILEPTAL Is Added to Regimens Including or Excluding CBZ1,3

Multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 267 children with partial seizures ages 3 to 17 years (n=135 intent-to-treat TRILEPTAL patients). In the 16-week, double-blind phase, patients were randomized to TRILEPTAL 30 to 46 mg/kg/day or to placebo while on their other AEDs. Median dose was 31.4 mg/kg/day.3
